ITINERARY:

The Great Southern train only operates during the summer months and is set to become as iconic as its sister train journeys, The Ghan and Indian Pacific. Enjoy the same private cabins, dining experiences and friendly crew aboard this exciting new railway journey, that uses the same rollingstock as the long-established and popular Ghan and Indian Pacific. Experience the same hallmark quality of off-train activities and escorted touring across these new spectacular locations. The Great Southern is different in each direction.

DAY 1 Fly to Adelaide
As you arrive into Adelaide you can feel the history and culture of 'The City of Churches'. Please catch a taxi from the airport to your hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighbourhood and central Adelaide.

DAY 2 Adelaide City Tour
Adelaide is famous for stylish architecture, beautiful parklands, boutique shopping, cafe strips, sandy swimming beaches, fabulous arts events, festivals, nightlife, and sandstone cottages with sweeping gardens. The diverse cultural mix of its one million population guarantees that the food is sensational. Adelaide is Australia's wine capital and lies between rolling hills to the east and beautiful sandy beaches to the west, with world class vineyards within easy reach.

Your friendly driver will pick you up in the comfortable air-conditioned coach before sharing experiences, fascinating facts and enchanting stories in the on-board full commentary throughout the morning. Today see Victoria Square (heart of Adelaide city), Gouger Street (restaurant cafe strip), King William Street's famous boulevard, The Terraces (4 terraces that separate the city from its greenbelts) and Adelaide's magnificent parks, gardens and greenbelts.

See River Torrens with its delightful garden banks, Parliament House, State Library, Trinity Church (Adelaide's oldest church), fashionable Hutt Street and stop at Haigh's Chocolates to enjoy complimentary tea or coffee accompanied by fine Haigh's chocolates (Haigh's unavailable on Sundays). DAY 4 Hahndorf, Mt Lofty Ranges & Adelaide Hills Tour
See Adelaide from the best seat in the house, by cruising along The Torrens River in the heart of the city in a heritage icon. The Torrens River is the most significant river and was one of the reasons for the siting of the city of Adelaide. Board the famous ‘Popeye’ for a truly memorable scenic cruise on the Torrens River. Take in the picturesque scenery and prolific birdlife as you cruise through the heart of this wonderful city.
