Escorted Tour

Itinerary

ITINERARY:

Note: Escorted tour starts on Day 3: Hobart 07:00am

Day 1: ARRIVE HOBART: Arrive Hobart today and check in to your centrally located hotel for 2 nights. Hobart is the capital of Australia's island state of Tasmania and sits on the River Derwent. At its fashionable Salamanca Place, old sandstone warehouses host galleries and cafes. Nearby is Battery Point, a historic district with narrow lanes and colonial-era cottages. The city's backdrop is 1,270m-high Mount Wellington, with sweeping views, plus hiking and cycling trails.

Day 2: HOBART TOUR: Visit some of the best attractions in Hobart, including Sullivan's Cove, Salamanca Place, and the Female Factory. Take in the stunning view of the city and Mt. Wellington from Rosny Hill Lookout on this half-day coach tram tour. Your half-day trip starts at Sullivan's Cove, the birthplace of Hobart city, still used as a ferry terminal today. As you pass the Parliament House, explore Salamanca Place and gaze in wonderment at the Georgian-style houses and boutique shops at Battery Point. Later, enjoy the breathtaking view of Derwent River from Sandy Bay and visit the adjacent casino of Wrest Point. Next, travel to St. David's Park, the first burial site in Tasmania, and visit the Cascade Valley, the oldest brewery in Australia. Afterwards, see the remains of the Female Factory, a former workhouse for female convicts, before passing St. David's Cathedral, the Treasury Building, and the Queen's Domain and Government House. Escape the city buzz and cross over the Tasman Bridge for spectacular views of Hobart and Mt. Wellington from the Rosny Hill Lookout. Before your return to the city centre, enjoy the panoramic vistas of the Derwent River from the Victoria and Constitution Docks.

Day 3: HOBART to STRAHAN: We leave Hobart and drive through the Derwent Valley – travelling east to west across the island. You’ll see the beautiful Russell Falls, walk among the Mt Field National Park Tall Trees, and visit Australia’s deepest freshwater lake, Lake St Clair. Explore the pristine Franklin-Gordon Wild River National Park and end the day in Strahan. Overnight: Strahan

Day 4: WILD WEST COAST: In the untouched wilderness of Tasmania’s West Coast we will explore the shifting sands of Henty Dunes. Then we continue into the Tarkine Rainforest and walk to Tasmania’s highest waterfall – Montezuma Falls. Or you can choose to join the world-famous Gordon River Cruise (optional, at your own expense). Overnight: Strahan

Day 5: CRADLE MOUNTAIN to LAUNCESTON: Around 950m above sea level is the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, where you can choose a walk to suit you. With an extensive range of tracks, stroll around Dove Lake or challenge yourself with a hike to Marion’s Lookout. A short drive takes us through Sheffield, the ‘town of murals’ and then to Launceston. Overnight: Launceston

Day 6: LAUNCESTON to BICHENO: We make our way to the East Coast and the beautiful Bay of Fires. If the conditions are right, this is the perfect place for a swim. Tasmania’s most scenic coastal drive takes you from St Helens to Bicheno where we meet the iconic Tasmanian devil as we stop at a wildlife sanctuary. This evening you may choose to join a viewing experience of the Little Penguins (optional at your own expense and seasonal). Overnight: Bicheno

Day 7: FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK to HOBART: An early start means we are the first to the Wineglass Bay lookout, beating the crowds and the heat for that postcard photo. Relax on the secluded beach or choose the more challenging Mt Amos or a beach walk. We continue our journey south passing the coastal villages of Swansea and Orford before arriving back to Hobart. Overnight: Hobart

Day 8: BRUNY ISLAND: We journey south of Hobart to Kettering and board the vehicular ferry to cross the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to North Bruny Island. On the island, we stop at “The Neck” home to the Truganini Lookout and its spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the Bruny Island coastline. Also, today we visit South Bruny Island and Adventure Bay, look for some local wildlife (including the white Bennetts wallabies) and sample some fresh local produce including oysters and cheese. Overnight: Hobart

Day 9: PORT ARTHUR HISTORIC SITE: We start with a visit to Australia’s best-preserved colonial village, Richmond before we head south to explore Tasmania’s ruthless convict past at the World Heritage listed Port Arthur Historic Site (guided walk and short harbour cruise included). Rich in visual history, learn of the chilling life as a convict in the restored sandstone prison buildings and preserved ruins. Overnight: Hobart.

Day 10: DEPART HOBART: The tour concludes today as you make your own way to the airport for flights home.

Please note: The day by day descriptions published are intended as an indicative guide only. Travel by nature is unpredictable.
