Itinerary

ITINERARY:

Please note: the order of the escorted day tours may change depending on what day of the week you choose as your depart date. A confirmed itinerary will be sent to you after you make your reservations. The tour also operates in both directions, with Darwin first and then Broome or vice versa.

Day 1: Arrive Darwin.
Arrive in Darwin and catch a taxi to the hotel for your 7-night stay.

Day 2: Hop on Hop Off Bus Tour of Darwin
Rich in cultural heritage, known for its balmy weather, and boasting an eclectic dining scene, the laid-back city of Darwin is a visitor's delight. Explore the sights from atop a double-decker bus and set your own pace around the Northern Territory's biggest town.

This hop-on hop-off adventure hits all the top attractions, giving you plenty of time to explore sites like the Darwin Military Museum or get up close and personal with crocodiles in the Cage of Death at Crocosaurus Cove. Zip around the city, hopping on and off at your leisure to immerse yourself in Darwin's mix of frontier heritage and modern bustle.

At the Aquascene Fish Feeding at Doctors Gully, watch the tide bring in an array of gentle fish species and wade into the water to feed them bread. Wander around the SKYCITY Casino, shop for arts and crafts at the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, and check out the pools, waterfalls, and tropical scenery of the Botanic Gardens.

Visit The Defence of Darwin Experience to discover Darwin's role during World War II, and check out the city's shopping, dining, and entertainment scene at the Parap Markets, Waterfront Precinct, and Fort Hill Wharf. Your pass lets you hop back on the bus as many times as you'd like, so be sure to keep it handy as you tour.

Day 3: Katherine Gorge Cruise Day Tour
Discover Katherine Gorge on this full-day tour including a 2-hour cruise to spot
Aboriginal rock art and wildlife, lunch and a visit to beautiful Edith Falls.

Start your day with an early-morning pick-up from your hotel and head to the wonderful Nitmiluk National Park and Katherine Gorge. Along the way, stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery – a site dedicated to those killed in the air raids in Darwin in the 1940s.
Continue to Edith Falls, where you have time for a refreshing swim in the waterhole, fringed with paper-bark and pandanas beneath the falls.

After a picnic lunch, enjoy a two-hour scenic cruise through Katherine Gorge, with a chance to see freshwater crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks of the river. Enjoy the amazing scenery around you and spot bird life unique to this area. On your return journey, take a brief tour of the town of Katherine, the hub of the region's cattle and farming industries. Travel via Pine Creek, a historic gold-mining town, and have a quick stop at Adelaide River before returning to Darwin.

Day 4: Kakadu National Park Day Tour
Discover Kakadu on a full-day trip, including wildlife on a Yellow Water Billabong Cruise, lunch and visit to Nourlangie to see ancient Aboriginal rock art.

Start your day with an early-morning hotel pick-up and travel on one of the longest roads in Australia, the Stuart Highway. Arrive at the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park and marvel at this landscape of exceptional beauty and diversity. The park is surrounded by mangrove-fringed coastal areas, expansive flood plains, lowland hills and open woodland.
Visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre and learn about the traditions of the Aboriginal people in Kakadu. Next cruise on the famous Yellow Water Billabong, search for saltwater crocodiles, and view the colourful range of bird life—for which this region is renowned.
After lunch, stop at the Nourlangie Rock for a guided walk and view the ancient Aboriginal rock art before returning to Darwin.

Day 5: Darwin free day
Today is a free day for you to enjoy the sights of Darwin at leisure. Perhaps you might like us to book a Darwin Harbour leisure cruise (extra cost) for you? Please let your travel consultant know.

Day 6: Litchfield National Park Day Tour
Discover beautiful Litchfield, visiting Florence, Tolmer and Wangi Falls with an included lunch. You’ll have the opportunity to swim beneath the falls too!

Start your day early with hotel pick-up and travel to the stunning Litchfield National Park. Stop at the termite mounds along the way, the incredible architectural work of local termites.
Continue to Florence Falls and view the magnificent double waterfalls from a high vantage point. Then take time to walk down the stairs and swim in the refreshing plunge pools.
Enjoy a hearty buffet lunch before travelling to Wangi Falls for great views of the water cascading down to a deep waterhole at the base of the falls.
For your last stop, visit Wangi Falls. Make time to relax or take another dip in this large pool of crystal-clear water. After a day of taking in great views of spectacular nature, it's time to head back to Darwin.

Day 7: Darwin free day
Today is a free day for you to enjoy the sights of Darwin at leisure.

Day 8: Depart Darwin and fly to Broome
Your Darwin part of the trip concludes today as you check out of your hotel and catch a taxi to the airport home for your onward flight to Broome.
Arrive in Broome and transfer by taxi to your hotel for the next 6 nights.

Day 9: Half Day Broome Escorted Tour
Enjoying a full commentary, we begin in Chinatown hearing fascinating stories of this colourful precinct. Learn about the ancient art of pearling from one of the local pearl producers, Cygnet Bay, and enjoy a historical sound show at the famous Sun Pictures, the world’s oldest operating open-air picture garden (now listed in the Guinness World Records). We take a drive through Old Broome to view typical Broome architecture and old Pearling Masters homes then view the aqua waters of Roebuck Bay at Town Beach and learn of Broome’s One Day War. We then stop at Matsos Broome Brewery to sample their hand-made ales and famous ginger beer (complimentary tasting included). Afterwards, visit the tranquil Japanese Cemetery and take an easy paced walk at Gantheaume Point known for dinosaur footprints and the story of Anastasia’s Pool.

Those who have chosen a Sunset Camel Ride will then head north of the rocks to meet their camel for this iconic Broome experience. Those who have chosen the Sparkling Sunset option will drive down onto Cable Beach for sunset (subject to beach conditions). Relax and enjoy a stroll, swim or light refreshments (included) as you watch the sun disappear into the horizon. A drop off to your accommodation is provided or you may like to enjoy a cocktail or dinner at one of the nearby cafes at approximately 6.00 pm.

Day 11: 1 Day Cape Leveque Tour
The Dampier Peninsula is a delight for travellers seeking a real Kimberley experience that is culturally rewarding in a beautiful environment. As we journey up the Cape Leveque Road, travellers will learn all about the areas fascinating place in Australia’s history. Enjoy morning tea in the Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community, home to the Sacred Heart Church and its glimmering pearl shell altar.

We then travel north to the Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. The only working pearl farm open to the public, Cygnet Bay offers an introduction to the history and cultivation of the world’s finest pearls during an in-depth Pearl Farm Tour. In the One Arm Point Aboriginal Community we tour a local aquaculture hatchery perched right on the tip of One Arm Point and enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the impressive Buccaneer Archipelago, witnessing the huge tidal flows of the Kimberley – the largest in the southern hemisphere! Returning south we discover Cape Leveque (locally known as Kooljaman). Enjoy time to relax on the pristine beaches and spectacular coastline the cape is renowned for. We then re-board the vehicle for our journey back to Broome, arriving at approximately 6.30pm.

Day 12: 72 Hour Broome Explorer Bus Pass
The 72 hour Value Added Pass allows for unlimited travel on the routes of the Broome Explorer Bus. It also provides a range of exclusive offers to allow you to make the most of your time in Broome.

Day 13: One Day Windjana Gorge & Tunnel Creek Adventure
Departing Broome, we travel through a remote and beautiful landscape while our guide shares stories of local history, people and the environment. Enjoy a morning tea break at Willare Roadhouse on the mighty Fitzroy River and visit Myalls Bore and the notorious Derby ‘Boab Prison Tree’, a relic of some cultural sensitivity due to its use as a prison for local Aboriginals during the era of Kimberley pioneers.

Join the Gibb River Road and travel towards the picturesque Napier Range. Once a Devonian reef, these mountains are over 350 million years old and home to a diverse array of animals and plants. The perfect place to experience the stunning natural beauty of an outback oasis is Windjana Gorge. Beneath gorge walls rising 90m, we search for freshwater crocodiles, local birdlife and indigenous bushtucker.

After a picnic lunch, the afternoon is spent exploring Tunnel Creek, a 750-metre cave system in which we discover secret caves and subterranean wildlife.
It is here we also learn the legend of Jandamarra, an Aboriginal freedom fighter who used the tunnel as a hide-out in the late 1800’s. As sunset approaches, we visit the historical ruins of Lillimooloora Station to appreciate what life would have been like during early white settlement in the area. There is time for an optional dinner (own expense) en route back to Broome.

Day 14: Depart Broome and fly home
Your tour concludes today as you check out of your hotel and catch a taxi to the airport for flights home. Tour Concludes – Memories Begin.
