The location was a WWII military base, and the town was established in 1967 to support the nearby US Naval Communication Station. Some structures are still used by the Australian navy.

Kuri Bay is located in NE Western Australia, 370 km NE of Broome, and opens into the Indian Ocean. Surrounded by red cliffs, the bay is sheltered from inclement weather. With its tropical savannah climate, it is home to Australia's first cultured pearl farm, founded in 1956, one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.

Cockatoo Island, Western Australia, is part of the Buccaneer Archipelago, consisting of a thousand islands with stunning scenery of unbelievable colours, and hidden reefs, off the Kimberley coast near Broome. The warm weather and water, and remoteness of the islands, have created an incredible breeding ground for a huge array of wildlife. The ocean waters that surround the hundreds of islands in the region are home to humpback whales (between August and October) and year-round ocean fishing.

Broome, situated on a peninsula in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, is known as the ‘pearl of the north’ due to its being the home of the South Sea pearls, among the largest commercially harvested cultured pearls in the world. In the 1800s Broome attracted pearl divers from Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines, resulting in the delightful multicultural town it is today. Visitors can witness first-hand how Broome pearls are cultured on a cruise to a local pearl farm, and hear the romantic stories of the original pearl luggers.
