Itinerary

ITINERARY:

Day 1: Arrive Adelaide.
Arrive Adelaide and transfer by taxi to your hotel for the next 6 nights. The remainder of the day is free to enjoy Adelaide at leisure.

Day 2: Adelaide & Hahndorf Tour.
Start your day off with morning pickup in central Adelaide and climb aboard an air-conditioned coach. Your tour swings through Adelaide's cultural precinct, where you'll see the North Terrace, Adelaide Botanic Gardens, home to the Adelaide Zoo and Bicentennial Conservatory, and the National Wine Centre. Continue past the tree-lined streets, mansions, and historic buildings of North Adelaide, then stop at St. Peters Cathedral or the Adelaide Oval. Take a factory tour at Haigh's Chocolates and try samples of their famous chocolates before returning to King William Street near Rundle Mall via the South Parklands, West Terrace, and North Terrace. Have the option to disembark at noon on King William Street and make your own way back to the central meeting point by 1pm, or stay on the coach to return to the centre. At either location, you'll have time to purchase lunch before the afternoon portion of the tour begins.

At 1:15pm, board the coach that goes to Hahndorf and the Adelaide Hills. Travel to Adelaide’s highest peak, Mount Lofty Summit, and take in sweeping views of the city and coast. After a stop for photo ops, continue through the villages of Crafers, Stirling, Aldgate, and Bridgewater. Stop at the Beerenberg Farm Shop for time to taste and purchase some products (own expense) before arriving at Hahndorf. Spend the afternoon independently exploring the main street of Adelaide’s oldest German settlement. Sample locally-made German specialties and produce, check out shops with arts and crafts, and choose between afternoon tea and a traditional German beer tasting at the Hahndorf Inn Hotel. Your tour ends by returning to central Adelaide in the early evening.

Day 3: Barossa Valley Day Tour
Your day trip from Adelaide starts with hotel pickup by deluxe minicoach for the drive into the Adelaide Hills. Your first stop is an intriguing attraction known as the Whispering Wall, whose specific acoustics allow you to stand at one end of the wall and hear what someone else is saying on the other end, 500 feet (150 meters) away. Continue to your first winery of the day, Chateau Yaldara, where you’ll enjoy a tasting of red and white varietals. Then visit the quaint town of Tanunda to stretch your legs with a short walk before heading just outside of town to your second winery, Peter Lehmann. Here, enjoy the atmosphere of the handsome stone building from the 1880s while you taste a variety of wines, and then dig in to a lunch of cured meats, regional cheese, bread and fresh produce.

After eating, over to Langmeil Winery, just next door, and learn about the history of this property, from its shiraz vineyard, the oldest-known in the world, to the three Barossa Valley local residents who purchased the neglected winery in the 1990s and fully restored it.
In the rustic tasting room (aka cellar door), enjoy wine samples provided by the staff. Next, head to your last winery of the day, stopping at Mengler’s Hill Lookout to enjoy views over the valley before arriving at the last winery for the day – a location specially selected by your local guide, who will take into consideration the group size, group tastes and the season. Throughout the day, your knowledgeable guide and the hosts at each winery share insider information about winemaking in Barossa Valley, providing a personalised touch that enhances your wine experience. Your tour ends with the drive back to Adelaide.

Day 4: Free day Adelaide
Today is a free day to explore Adelaide at leisure. We can book you on a 2 hour Adelaide walking tour if you would like to see more of the city (extra expense).

Day 5: Kangaroo Island Day Tour
Your day trip begins with pickup in Adelaide by coach for the drive with your guide across the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis, where you catch the ferry for a cruise across Backstairs Passage to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Upon arrival, board another coach for your tour of the island. If you’re starting by plane, land at the island’s Kingscote Airport, where you are met by the coach. Then begin your Kangaroo Island experience at Seal Bay Conservation Park to witness Australian sea lions lazing on the beach; take a coastal walk with a National Parks ranger for an up-close look at the colony.

Continue to Vivonne Bay for a 2-course lunch at Vivonne Bay Bistro, where picture windows and a deck provide opportunities to watch for koalas and kangaroos in the surrounding bush. After lunch, visit Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, where kangaroos, wallabies, and echidnas roam free and koalas stay lazy in their eucalyptus groves, and then head to Flinders Chase National Park on the rugged southwest coast of the island to walk among the granite boulders known as the Remarkable Rocks. See the rock archway known as Admirals Arch, admire Cape du Couedic and watch long-nosed fur seals as they play and relax.

Throughout your tour, hear about the history of Kangaroo Island and learn interesting facts about the animals from your knowledgeable guide. When your time on the island is up, head back to the ferry landing for your ferry ride back to the mainland. Please note: Due to recent bushfires, a modified itinerary is in effect until Flinders Chase reopens which includes Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery, Seal Bay Conservation Park, Raptor Domain, and KI Wildlife Park.

Day 6: Murray River Day Trip from Adelaide with Lunch Cruise aboard the Proud Mary
After morning pickup in Adelaide, travel in a comfortable air-conditioned coach to the Murray River for your lunch cruise. Relax as your triple-decker boat glides down the historic river and you soak in the surrounding scenery. Gain insight into the river system while having lunch on board the vessel.

When your boat returns to the dock, reboard your coach for a tour along the Murray River. Stop for photo ops at Mannum Lookout and other scenic locations. Travel through the Adelaide Hills and visit Melba’s Chocolate Factory and Woodside Cheese Wrights. You can purchase afternoon tea before your tour ends in Adelaide with drop-off at your starting point.

Day 7: Depart Adelaide.
Your tour concludes today when you check out of your hotel. Please catch a taxi to the airport for flights home. We hope you enjoyed Adelaide.

Please note: The day by day descriptions published are intended as an indicative guide only. Travel by nature is unpredictable.
